More than 90 seniors from high schools around the city graduated Monday from the Chicago Police and Firefighter Training Academy program.
Commencement was held at Herman Hall on the campus of the Illinois Institute of Technology. Cook County State's Attorney Anita Alvarez gave the keynote address.
The graduation honors students who have dedicated two years of their high school careers to future professions in public safety.
Started by Chicago Public Schools' college and career preparation department in conjunction with the Chicago Police and Fire Departments and City Colleges of Chicago, 2010 marked the 11th year for CPFTA
The academy trains more than 200 students every year with a goal of helping to provide a pool of qualified applicants for the police and fire departments.
