CHICAGO (AP) — Many Chicago Public School students will have a chance to participate in structured activities during the winter break in a program called Safe Haven-Safe Holiday.
The district announced the program Wednesday. It's an eight-day lineup of guidance services and activities for students in targeted communities.
Eighty sites on the south, west, southwest and northwest sides of the city are hosting the program. Workshops on conflict resolution, positive communication and character development will be included along with arts and crafts.
Catholic Charities will provide a daily meal.
Information is available by calling the District's Interfaith Department at 773-553-1528 or by calling 311. Safe Haven-Safe Holiday will run Monday through Thursday of the weeks leading up to Christmas and New Year's Day, but not on Christmas Eve or New Year's Eve.
