Real talk: Chicago is pretty much the Meryl Streep of pizza.
When it comes to their pies, Chicago has heard it all, including that it's "magic," "classic" and, our personal favorite, that it's "life-changing."
But when it came to travel website TripAdvisor's latest ranking of the top U.S. cities for pizza-eating, reportedly based on reviews and opinions of the site's users, Chicago didn't even make the top 10.
The ranking claims San Diego as home to the best pizza in the United States, besting Las Vegas, Boston and New York City, which rounded out out the top four.
"TripAdvisor travelers reveal that some of America's best pizza is being tossed on the West Coast, which flies in the face of the common perception that pizza is only a Northeast or Midwest specialty," Brooke Ferencsik, director of communications at TripAdvisor, said in a statement.
Seattle, Austin, San Francisco, Indianapolis, Philadelphia and Phoenix also apparently topped Chicago's pizza.
All hometown boosterism aside, all we've got to say is: Really?!
When it comes to the tough-to-imitate Chicago-style pie, the city is home to endless varieties on the rich deliciousness that is deep-dish. The casserole-like pies at Pequod's (2207 N. Clybourn Ave.) were recently featured on an episode of Travel Channel's Best Daym Takeout.
The city's well-known deep-dish aside, Chicago is home to many other pizza pioneers who have won over legions of foodies. Though critically-acclaimed Great Lake is closed, other pizzerias -- including Piece (1927 W. North Ave.), Coalfire (1321 W. Grand Ave.) and Bar Toma (110 E. Pearson St.) -- are also serving up delicious pies that are somewhat lighter fare than expected of Chicago-bred pizza.
