The nation's third largest school district is reiterating its existing safety and emergency management plans to keep more than 400,000 students safe.
School officials say the frequency of school shootings has caused the district to continuously hone its safety strategies to prevent and respond to these types of tragedies.
A CPS safety officer says police and counselors will be deployed to schools as needed.
School officials say CPS schools have been vigilant in preparing for all manner of emergencies, holding drills for tornadoes, fires and lockdown situations, which would cover a school shooting.
