The South Side Community Art Center will be hosting Spaces and Places, a Conversation on Community this Sunday, December 9th at the Center, 3831 S. Michigan Ave. from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. On display will be the Douglas Williams Retrospective featuring the work of Douglas Williams, sculptor, painter, printer and activist who served as the Director of the Center during the late 1960s and early 1970s. He is the co-founder of Black Aesthetics show, which became Black Creativity at the Museum of Science & Industry and thrives to this day.
Douglas will conduct a multi-media presentation of his work and be part of a panel discussion focusing on strategies for building culture and community around new spaces. The panel, moderated by Faheem Majeed of the Art Institute of Chicago will also feature artists Alberto Aguilar, Tempestt Hazel and Laura Shaeffer,
The School of the Art Institute 2012 will also preview the progress on their latest project space Coach House Room . The event is open to the public and refreshments will be served. For more information call 773-373-1026.
