Barbara Bates, Barbara Bates Designs and Linda Johnson Rice, Johnson Publishing Company at the Knocking Out Breast Cancer Fundraiser/Fashion Show held at Prentice Women’s Hospital on
Sunday October 29. All 55 of the models in this very special show were breast cancer survivors. Proceeds from the Fundraiser/Fashion Show will benefit the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer
Center of Northwestern University and Sinai Health Systems. Bates, herself a three year cancer survivor, conceived the event to provide more research specifically targeted to women
of color. Over 300 people attended the show which included some surprises. A pair of pink boxing gloves signed by President Barack Obama fetched $1500. Attendees also
bought specially donated Hermes scarves with the proceeds going to the effort.
