CHICAGO (AP) — A Chicago mayoral candidate is demanding rival Carol Moseley Braun apologize for accusing her of being "strung out on crack."
Patricia Van Pelt-Watkins said Monday that Braun's
comments at a candidate forum Sunday were "indefensible and untrue."
It started when Van Pelt-Watkins questioned Braun's
return to politics and said the former U.S. senator was "missing in
action" for years. Braun responded that Van Pelt-Watkins didn't know what
she'd been doing "because you were strung out on crack."
Van Pelt-Watkins says she used cocaine and marijuana
as a teenager but never used crack, and has been sober for more than 25 years.
The community organizer trails far behind Braun and other candidates in the
polls.
Video of the exchange was provided to television
stations by Trinity United Church of Christ.
