*1863: First Black troops, United States Colored Troops, recruited in the north.

*1893: First Black female aviator Bessie Coleman was born.

*1948: President Harry Truman signed executive order to end segregation in U.S. Armed Forces.

*1990: Elaine Weddington Steward became first Black female executive (Asst. Gen. Mgr. of Boston Red Sox) of a professional baseball organization.
