CHICAGO (AP) — A new Chicago neighborhood clinic is receiving a $50,000 grant from University of Chicago Medical Center's Urban Health Initiative.
CommunityHealth is the largest volunteer-based free
clinic in Illinois. It opened its first satellite clinic site in the South Side
neighborhood of Englewood in September.
The grant money will go toward medical equipment
and building renovations at the Englewood location.
Resident doctors from the University of Chicago
Medical Center examine and treat patients twice a week as part of their training
at the Englewood clinic.
The clinic is housed within a Chicago Department of
Health facility at 641 W. 63rd St. It has eight patient treatment rooms, a
laboratory, a classroom and a pharmacy. Expansion plans include four dental
work spaces and an additional lab.
