Judge allows garbage as evidence in murder trial

Associated Press
WAUKEGAN, Ill. (AP) — A Lake County judge declares that discarded mail and other items found in her garbage cans are fair evidence in the upcoming murder trial of Marni Yang, a Chicago woman accused of killing the pregnant girlfriend of former Chicago Bears player Shaun Gayle.

Yang's attorneys argued that police violated Yang's privacy, but Circuit Court Judge Christopher Slide ruled Thursday that the material was abandoned, and not protected by privacy laws.

Yang is accused of shooting Rhoni Reuter of Deerfield seven times in October of 2007, killing Reuter and her unborn child. She has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and intentional homicide of an unborn child.

Prosecutors maintain Yang was envious of Reuter because Reuter was pregnant by Gayle, a member of the Bears' 1985 Super Bowl-winning team.
