*1920: First Black baseball league, the Negro National League, was organized by Andrew “Rube” Foster.

*1943: William L. Dawson elected U.S. Representative (Illinois).

*1971: Congressional Black Caucus formed.

*1985: U.S. Rep. William H. Gray was elected chairman of the House Budget Committee. It was the highest congressional post held by an African American.
