*1621: William Tucker, the first African American, was born.

*1947: U.S. Rep. William Dawson was the first Black to head a standing committee of Congress, the House Expenditures Committee.

*1966: Civil Rights activist Sammy Younge Jr., a Tuskegee Institute student, fatally shot by a 67-year-old gas station employee for using the “Whites only” restroom at the station.

*1989: The “Arsenio Hall Show” premiered.
