Resources for kicking the tobacco habit in 2011

Associated Press

CHICAGO (AP) — Health advocates are offering some encouragement to smokers who want to kick the habit in the new year.

There are many resources available to help. Just because you've tried unsuccessfully to quit smoking doesn't mean you should give up. There may be a quit method that's better suited for you.

That's the word from the Chicago Tobacco Prevention Project, a partnership between the Respiratory Health Association and the Chicago Department of Public Health.

A free, six-session group program is offered in the Chicago area for adults interested in quitting smoking. Visit QuitWinChicago.com for dates and locations of the "Courage to Quit" classes.

A free telephone hotline staffed by trained counselors also is available. Call 1-866-QUIT-YES.
