CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago Transit Authority reminds riders that it is offering penny rides on buses and trains for the New Year's holiday.
The CTA said Wednesday that the penny service
starts late Friday evening, Dec. 31, and continues through early morning on New
Year's Day, Jan. 1. CTA president Richard Rodriguez says the penny rides are
meant to encourage people to leave their vehicles at home and "let the CTA
be their designated driver over the New Year's holiday." The CTA says the
penny rides also helps reduce traffic congestion by keeping more drivers off
the road.
The penny rides over the holiday are a 25-year
tradition for the CTA.
