Rep. Davis wins top spot on Chicago mayoral ballot

Associated Press

CHICAGO (AP) — Congressman Danny Davis has claimed the No. 1 spot on the ballot in Chicago's mayor race.

Davis won a candidate lottery Wednesday so his will be the first name listed on the Feb. 22 ballot. Former White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel will have the No. 3 spot if he survives residency challenges to his eligibility to run.

More than 30 people have filed objections to Emanuel's nominating petitions because he lived for nearly two years in Washington before coming home in October to run for mayor when Mayor Richard Daley didn't seek a seventh term.

In all, 20 mayoral hopefuls filed nominating papers to be on the ballot. That list is sure to be culled by Election Day because nearly a dozen of them face petition challenges.
