CHICAGO (AP) — Nearly a dozen of the 20 candidates who want to be Chicago's new mayor have had their nominating petitions for the Feb. 22 ballot challenged.
The biggest target is former White House chief of
Rahm Emanuel. A preliminary Chicago Board of Election Commissioners report says
he had 31 challenges filed against him by Tuesday's deadline.
Other mayoral candidates challenged include
newcomer Rob Halpin, who is the tenant renting Emanuel's North Side home;
former U.S. Sen. Carol Moseley Braun; and state Sen. James Meeks. So is former
U.S. Sen. Roland Burris, whose friends tried to draft him.
