First black Citadel football player returns

Associated Press
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — The first black cadet to play football at The Citadel is returning to campus.

Norman Seabrooks gives a talk Thursday at the state military college in Charleston.

Seabrooks graduated in 1973, three years after the then all-male school graduated its first black student.

Seabrooks started for three years on the football team, was named all-Southern Conference in 1972 and served as a team co-captain while playing for coach red Parker.

After graduation he has had a successful career in health insurance with Aetna Inc. and is now a regional market president for the company in Seattle.
