CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago area's landing $4 million to help fight obesity.
The money will be divided up among Cook County local governments, community groups, schools and others who develop effective programs to help families eat healthier.
Successful applicants will received between $25,000 and $200,000.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention awarded the $4 million to the Public Health Institute of Metropolitan Chicago and the Cook County Department of Public Health.
The money will go out to individual institutions and groups later.
County public health official Stephen Martin Jr. says the money's part of a national effort to curb an obesity epidemic by concentrating on community-level change.
