Dart says he won't run for Chicago mayor

by Don Babwin

CHICAGO (AP) — Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart says he isn't running for mayor of Chicago.

At a news conference Wednesday, Dart said he found it impossible to run for mayor and be a good husband and father at the same time.

Dart was considered a leading contender to be Chicago's next mayor. He's won national headlines with moves such as his lawsuit against Craigslist over adult content and his efforts to stop evictions of renters until banks made the process more humane.

He's also a savvy politician who is well connected to what is left of Chicago's Democratic political machine. Observers say he's one of the few local politicians left who has the ability to put hundreds of volunteers on the street to help him campaign.
