Bishop Arthur Brazier dead at 89

Defender Staff Report

Bishop Arthur M. Brazier, pastor emeritus of Apostolic Church of God died Friday at an undisclosed hospital. He was 89.

“It is with a heavy heart that I announce to you the passing of my father and our Pastor Emeritus, the honorable Bishop Arthur M. Brazier. We bow in humble submission to the will of God, as the Lord has seen fit to call His servant home. Bishop’s passing represents a great loss to my family, our church, and our community. We will indeed miss him. Yet, we will mourn his passing and celebrate his life with the dignity and grace for which he was known. I will share more details later; you may continue to check this site (www.acog-chicago.org) for further updates. In the meantime, please keep my mother, Sis. Isabelle Brazier; my sisters, Lola Hillman, Janice Dortch, and Rosalyn Shepher; and our entire family in your prayers,” said Dr. Byron T. Brazier, pastor of Apostolic, on the church’s website.

Bishop Brazier took the helm of the South Side mega-church in 1960. He retired in 2008, turning over the pulpit to his son.

Services are pending.
