Rep. Mike Quigley won't run for Chicago mayor

Associated Press

CHICAGO (AP) — Congressman Mike Quigley says he's decided not to run for mayor of Chicago.

Quigley is the second member of Congress in recent days to say he won't be among the candidates trying to succeed Mayor Richard Daley. Last week Congressman Luis Guiterrez announced his decision not to run.

In a statement, Quigley says he wants to remain in Congress, where the Democrat has represented Illinois' 5th Congressional District for 18 months. That's the seat vacated by Rahm Emanuel when Emanuel joined the Obama administration as White House chief of staff.

Emanuel recently quit his job to run for mayor.

In his statement, Quigley doesn't say who he's supporting in the mayor's race or if he's decided on a candidate to support.
