Students to help find unmarked graves

Associated Press

MURRAY, Ky. (AP) — Students from Murray State University are helping look for unmarked African-American burial plots.

The students are heading to Trigg County on Saturday to help the Cadiz Renaissance on Main program as it works on upgrading a city-owned cemetery.

The Murray Ledger & Times reports that one of the goals of the program is to put up a monument to the number of African-Americans buried there without markers.

Cadiz Mayor Lyn Bailey says the monument has been needed "for a long time."

Murray State professor Anthony Ortmann says he will bring five students to the cemetery. Ortmann says they will use radar equipment to determine where the unmarked graves are located.
