Ill. health centers to receive federal grants

Associated Press
CHICAGO (AP) — Illinois will get a nearly $46 million slice of federal grants for community health centers.

The money's part of $727 million set aside in the Affordable Care Act meant to help provide care for some 745,000 underserved patients through 143 health centers nationwide.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services says the money set aside for Illinois should help serve more than 55,000 new patients.

Among those slated to receive grants in Illinois is the Southern Illinois Healthcare Foundation. It'll get more than $10 million. The Carbondale-based Community Health and Emergency Services, Inc., will get more than $5 million. And Chicago's Christian Community Health Center will receive more than $4 million.
