Wilfredo De Jesus running for Chicago mayor

Associated Press
CHICAGO (AP) — A Chicago minister and commissioner on the city's Zoning Board of Appeals says he's running for mayor.

The Rev. Wilfredo De Jesus is a lifelong Chicagoan and the senior pastor at the New Life Covenant Church in the Humboldt Park neighborhood.

De Jesus is an advocate of immigration reform. A news release announcing his candidacy says he was named the vice president of social justice for the National Hispanic Leadership Conference, which serves 18,000 churches across the United States.

De Jesus joins a crowded field of Democrats who've announced they're running for Chicago mayor or hinted at it. Among them are former White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel, Chicago School Board President Gery Chico, Chicago City Clerk Miguel del Valle, Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart and state Sens. James Meeks and Rickey Hendon.
