Missing toddler found in lake; father in custody

Defender Staff Report

The body of a 14-month-old boy was pulled from Lake Michigan Thursday after his father didn't return the boy to his mother.

Dontrell Johnson's body was spotted about 2 p.m. in the water near La Rabida Children's Hospital on the South Side. He was taken to the University of Chicago Comer Children't Hospital and pronounced dead less than two hours later.

The boy was picked up by his father earlier this week and refused to bring the boy home. He also threatened to do bodily harm to the child. The father was arrested but refused to divulge the child's whereabouts, police said.

No charges have been filed.
