The Chicago Defender continues a tradition as they acknowledge and honor leaders who have gone above and beyond.
On Oct. 16 at 6 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Chicago, the Chicago Defender’s 2010 Newsmakers Awards and Scholarship Gala will award those that have been recognized as outstanding individuals and who take the idea of leadership to the next level.
This year’s newsmakers are Barbara Allen, Muhammad Ali, Alderman Anthony A. Beale, Tom Joyner, Ald. Toni Preckwinkle (4th) and Wayne Watson. Actor Harry Lennix and WGN-TV news anchor Micah Materre will co-host the event.
The Abbott-Sengstacke Journalism Scholarship will also be awarded.
Individual Tickets are $200; table of 10 is $2,500.
