CHICAGO (AP) — Former U.S. Sen. Carol Moseley Braun and former White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel courted voters at the same restaurant as they gear up to run for mayor of Chicago.
Both potential candidates chatted up diners at Izola's restaurant Monday on the South Side.
Izola's is a bastion of Chicago's black leaders and was a favorite of the city's first black mayor, Harold Washington.
Moseley Braun says she lived just a few blocks from the restaurant as a child.
A spokeswoman says it's a coincidence that the former senator was there the same day as Emanuel. She says Moseley Braun has been quietly building support for her mayoral run for weeks.
Emanuel announced online Sunday that he's preparing to run, launching a closely watched "listening tour" of the city.
