CHICAGO (AP) — The Cook County State's Attorney's office says investigators have arrested a top aide to Cook County Board President Todd Stroger as part of a public corruption investigation.
Sally Daly, a spokeswoman for the state's attorney's office, says investigators arrested Stroger deputy chief of staff Carla Oglesby Monday afternoon as she pulled out of a downtown Chicago parking garage.
Oglesby was being held on $75,000 bond Monday night on felony charges of theft of government property, money laundering and official misconduct.
Authorities say the investigators were looking into a series of no-bid contracts that came in just below $25,000 apiece — the threshold that would require Cook County Board approval.
Stroger did not immediately return telephone calls about the arrest, and Cook County Inspector General Patrick Blanchard declined to discuss the nature of the investigation.
