Ruling in editor murder case expected in next week

Associated Press
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — A judge says he will decide in less than a week whether to move the murder trial for a slain Oakland journalist out of Alameda County.

Alameda County Judge Thomas Reardon made the remarks on Thursday at the conclusion of a change of venue hearing in the case against former Your Black Muslim Bakery leader Yusef Bey IV and co-defendant Antoine Mackey.

The two men are accused of murdering Oakland Post editor Chauncey Bailey in August 2007. They have pleaded not guilty.

The defense says the case should be moved out of Alameda County because negative media coverage has made it impossible to find an impartial jury.

Prosecutors dispute that argument.

Reardon said he will issue a written ruling in less than a week.
