Chicago mayor to Asia looking for investors

Associated Press

CHICAGO (AP) — Mayor Richard Daley is heading for China and South Korea in a search for investments that will boost Chicago's economy.

Daley, who won't seek re-election next year, says he hopes to convince investors to spend money on infrastructure improvements, including a high-speed rail link between Chicago's Loop business district and O'Hare International Airport.

Daley told the Chicago Sun-Times he is looking for money for "all the things you can think of to move the city forward." He said that includes housing, water and sewer work, lighting and CTA projects.

The mayor's trip, which will begin Friday, is being sponsored by World Business Chicago and the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce.

In Shanghai, Daley is scheduled to meet with CEOs from Chinese companies, and address the American Chamber of Commerce. He will also meet with Shanghai Mayor Han Zheng.
