CHICAGO (AP) — U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. says he hasn't made a decision whether to run for Chicago mayor, but he predicts White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel would have to overcome "some profound weaknesses" if he jumps in the race.
Jackson appeared Thursday on CNN's "John King, USA." Mayor Richard Daley announced earlier this week that he wouldn't seek re-election after more than 20 years in office.
Jackson says he hasn't decided if he'll try to succeed Daley. Jackson says if Emanuel runs, Chicago's mayoral race will turn into "a national campaign" that will include a debate about President Barack Obama's agenda and "communities that have been left behind."
Emanuel is a former congressman from the Chicago-area. Jackson says Emanuel has "tremendous strengths" but also "some profound weaknesses and many of them are very local."
