WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) — Purdue University has won a $1.5 million grant for a new community-focused effort aimed at reducing heart disease among Indiana's black residents.
A team led by a Purdue health researcher will collaborate on the 3-year project with the Indiana Minority Health Coalition and its affiliates in Lake and Marion counties.
The effort funded by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality will take a community-driven, culture-centered approach to educate blacks about their high risk of heart disease.
It will use a Purdue web portal to help educate black people about how to reduce their chances of getting the illness, which can cause premature death.
