Sharpton, civil rights groups plan DC rally, march

Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Rev. Al Sharpton and other civil rights leaders are planning to commemorate the 47th anniversary of the March on Washington.

The National Action Network says several groups are backing "Reclaim the Dream" events scheduled for Saturday. The program begins with a rally at Dunbar High School at 11 a.m. in northwest Washington. Participants will then march to the site of the planned Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, near the Tidal Basin.

Besides Sharpton, organizers say U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan, Martin Luther King III, NAACP President Benjamin Todd Jealous and D.C. Council member Harry Thomas Jr. are expected to attend.

The rally marks the date of Martin Luther King Jr.'s famous "I Have a Dream" speech, which he delivered at the Lincoln Memorial.
