Ill. prison agency expanding job-skills program

Associated Press
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — The Illinois Corrections Department is expanding the use of a Bible-based training program to help inmates hold down jobs once they're released.

The department says 54 inmates have completed the "Jobs Partnership" program at the prisons in Dwight and Pontiac. Starting next month, it will be offered at the Decatur prison.

Dwight prison warden Sheryl Thomson says the 12-week program teaches inmates better work habits and a sense of self-worth.

The program is for inmates nearing release. Organizers try to arrange jobs for them in the Peoria and Bloomington areas.
