Chicago group plans late night 'peace run'

Associated Press

CHICAGO (AP) — A Chicago anti-violence program plans to hit the ground running.

CeaseFire Chicago will host its first Late Night Run for Peace this Saturday starting at 8 p.m.

It's a two-mile course on the city's West Side and about 200 people are expected to participate.

CeaseFire's goal is to reduce the number of homicides in the city.

Chicago police statistics show that there were 257 killings in the city from January to July of this year. In 2009, there were 458 total and the year before there were 512.
