EVANSTON, Ill. (AP) — Northwestern University plans to offer more financial aid to incoming freshmen from high schools in Evanston and Chicago.
The plan includes providing more scholarship funds and eliminating loans and required work-study jobs.
That means many more students from Evanston and Chicago who need financial assistance will get scholarships that fully cover their tuition.
The new Good Neighbor, Great University Scholarship Program will begin with next year's freshman class.
Northwestern hopes to grant the scholarships to about 100 first-year students in the fall of 2011. About 2,000 first-year students enroll at Northwestern annually.
