UIC to partner in $10M federal math project

Associated Press
CHICAGO (AP) — Researchers from the University of Illinois at Chicago are to participate in a $10 million project focusing on math literacy.

The school said Monday that its Learning Sciences Research Institute would be a partner in the project, which is funded by the U.S. Department of Education's Institute of Education Sciences. Experts from UIC will redesign and test middle school math curriculum.

The widely used curriculum is called the Connected Mathematics Project.

The university says the goal is to improve learning for sixth through eighth graders.
