Illinois to get $5.4M for health care training

CHICAGO (AP) — Health care work force training programs in Illinois are set to receive federal grants totaling $5.4 million.

The grants, announced Thursday, target nursing, geriatrics and recruitment of minority students into health care professions.

Health care training programs across the state are receiving grants. Recipients include University of Illinois at Chicago, Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville and Illinois State University in Normal.

Danville Area Community College in Danville, St. Xavier University in Chicago and Lewis and Clark Community College in Godfrey also will receive grants.

The Illinois awards are part of $159 million in grants announced by Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius.
