Suspect description released in Bailey's death

Reward grows for capture of murderer

Defender Staff Report

Chicago police released the description of man sought in officer Michael Bailey's fatal shooting as the reward grows for the killer's capture.

Police are looking for a Black man, age 18 to 24 years, approximately 6 feet tall and weighing 160 pounds seen fleeing from the scene. He has a medium-dark complexion and a short fade. The man was last seen wearing a white t-shirt and blue jean shorts with a long brown/orange-colored belt hanging from his pants.

Bailey, 62, who was uniformed, was gunned down the morning of July 18 in front of his home in the 7400 block of South Evans Avenue as he washed his new Buick Regal. The 20-year-veteran was scheduled to retire next month.

A group of law firms pledged more than $28,000 toward the reward -- now totalling $129,450 -- for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the murderer.

Anyone with information about the officer's murder is urged to call Area 2 Detectives at (312) 747-8272.
