Residents in Park Manor added to the reward –– now totaling $101.000 –– offered for information leading to the arrest of those responsible for the fatal shooting of Chicago police officer Michael Bailey.
Bailey, a 20-year veteran of the department and vice president of his block club, was gunned down the morning of July 18 in front of his home in the 7400 block of South Evans Avenue during an attempted carjacking.
“Officer Bailey was a police officer that not only served this city, but our friend who served as his neighbor. Today we join the chorus of law enforcement organizations calling for our neighbors to come forward with any information that will remove the killers from our streets. All of us are in danger as long as the perpetrators walk the streets,” Darlene Tribue, president of Park Manor Neighbors said in a statement announcing a $1,000 contribution to the existing reward offered.
The uniformed 62-year-old officer, who was set to retire next month, had just made it home after ending his overnight shift guarding Mayor Richard M. Daley’s residence when the shooting occurred about 6 a.m.
Bailey was laid to rest on Friday.
