Quinn forms anti-violence group to take testimony

Associated Press
CHICAGO (AP) — Gov. Pat Quinn has formed an anti-violence commission to gather testimony from those affected by violence.

That includes victims, neighborhood groups, authorities and experts in violence prevention.

Quinn announced the group on Sunday.

It's called the Illinois Anti-Violence Commission. The group will submit its findings in November when the Illinois General Assembly reconvenes.

Quinn says when violence takes a life, the impact of the loss ripples throughout the community for years.

The commission will include the sister of Chicago Police Officer Thomas Wortham IV, who was shot and killed in May during the attempted theft of his motorcycle.
