NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Fisk University of Nashville has received a science and technology award for its groundbreaking development of hypersensitive crystals used in the detection of radiation.
The school won a R&D 100 Award for the third time. According to a news release from the university, Fisk is the only historically black institution to ever win the award.Research of crystal growth has been under way at Fisk for approximately 25 years. The research was part of an initiative funded by the Department of Homeland Security.
The award is sponsored by R&D magazine.
