CHICAGO (AP) — U.S. Sen. Roland Burris says he's still bitter about the criticism he received after his appointment, but he also says he's having "a blast" in the Senate.
Burris on Friday made his first public appearance in Chicago in several months when he and Sen. Dick Durbin appeared outside the Chicago Board of Trade to laud passage of the Wall Street Reform bill.
Burris said he would love to spend one term in the Senate. However, he said the news media made that impossible by depicting him as dishonest after his appointment by Rod Blagojevich.
Though GOP and Democratic Party officials oppose the idea, a court case seeking a special election instead of letting Burris serve two years is pending.
Burris says if a "special election" is ordered, he will find a way to be a candidate.
