Weather officials issue heat advisories for Ill.

Associated Press
CHICAGO (AP) — The mercury is rising in Illinois and it's time to take precaution.

The National Weather Service on Thursday issued heat advisories covering portions of Chicago's metro area and throughout eastern and southern Illinois.

Weather service meteorologist Mike Bardou says temperatures in the low to mid-90s were expected. He says the dew point will also be high, meaning the air will feel sticky and humid.

There were no immediate reports of heat-related illnesses or deaths.

Chicago's Office of Emergency Management and Communications urges caution, particularly for senior citizens. Cook County health officials have asked residents to limit outdoor activity and drink plenty of fluids.

The weather service issued heat advisories Thursday for about a dozen states in the Midwest and South.
