11 students selected for UIC diabetes internship

Associated Press
CHICAGO (AP) — The University of Illinois at Chicago has selected 11 top high school students to participate in a prestigious summer internship to learn about the immune system and diabetes.

University officials say the students are standouts in honors and advancement-placement science courses.

They'll work under the direction of Dr. Jose Oberholzer. He's the chief of transplantation at UIC and the head of the Chicago Diabetes Project.

The students will participate in labs and attend lectures during the three-week internship.

The internship is paid for through private donations.

The students come from high schools in communities including Northfield, Niles, Oakbrook and Chicago.
