ATLANTA (AP) — The Georgia Department of Community Health is offering pregnant women and new mothers a chance to receive weekly text messages with health tips for pregnancy and raising infants.
The free program is called "text4baby" and includes three text messages per week timed to a woman's due date or the birth date of the baby.
Women can sign up by texting the word BABY, or BEBE for Spanish, to 511411.
The text messages focus on topics including birth defects prevention, immunization, nutrition, seasonal flu, mental health, oral health and safe sleep. The messages also can connect women to prenatal and infant care services.
The national public-private partnership is meant to address the rising U.S. infant mortality rate.
