Settlement reached in Lake County teen's death

Associated Press
The attorney for the family of a Lake County teen shot to death by Waukegan police in 2008 says a settlement has been reached with the city after a lawsuit was filed.

Chicago attorney James Montgomery Jr. represents the family of 17-year-old Jeffrey Lewis. Montgomery said Friday that the terms of the financial settlement would not be disclosed at the family's request. Newton Finn is corporation counsel for the city of Waukegan and he says "a resolution apparently was reached."

The Lake County coroner found that Lewis was shot six times by police during a domestic dispute in August 2008. Waukegan police have said an officer shot and killed Lewis after the teen allegedly struck another officer in the head with a hammer. Officers in the case were cleared of any wrongdoing after an investigation.
