Illinois Lottery tops $2B in sales for fourth year

Associated Press
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — The Illinois Lottery has topped $2 billion in sales for the fourth year in a row.

The lottery, a state agency, passed the $2 billion mark on May 25 and is on track to beat last fiscal year's sales. The state's fiscal year ends June 30.

Jodie Winnett of the Illinois Lottery says the agency will transfer $625 million into the state's common school fund to help public schools. The lottery also will contribute to the state's capital fund.

The lottery's promotions this year included Blackhawks Cash. Two fans won an opportunity to travel with the team on a road trip next season. More than 43,000 entries were received.
