About 90 potential jurors have been given a questionnaire ahead of the trial for a former Chicago police official charged with lying about the alleged torture of suspects.
Jury selection for former police Lt. Jon Burge is set to begin May 24.
Potential jurors have been brought in to federal court to fill out the questionnaire since earlier this month, with the latest batch arriving Monday. An unrelated hearing later in the day was closed to the public.
Two special prosecutors have found that police tortured prisoners to get confessions decades ago. However, they concluded the mistreatment happened so long ago that it couldn’t be prosecuted.
Burge has pleaded not guilty to charges he lied when questioned about the alleged torture.
