New York Harlem Quartet with Sinfonietta

Dr. Paul freeman founder and musical director of the Chicago Sinfonietta will be joined by the New York Harlem Quartet in its climaxing 23rd season concert Sunday at 2:20 p.m. in Lund Auditorium, Dominican University, 7900 W. Division St. in River Forest and Monday at 7:30 p.m. at the Symphony Center, 220 S. Michigan Ave. in Orchestra Hall.


The program consists of Mozart's Overture to Der Schauspieldirekter Sinfonie Concertante for Violin and Viola, K. 364 1st Movement,  Brahms' Concerto for Violin and Cello, Opus 102 1st Movement, Abels Delights and Dances' and Kodaly's Dances of Galanta. The youthful and innovative all-Black and Latin ensemble are the First Place Laureates of the prestigious Sphinx Competition.


CHICAGO WEST COMMUNITY MUSIC CENTER'S Suzuki String Spring recital will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Garfield Park Field house Theater, 100 N. Central Park Ave. Howard Sandifer is executive director, Darlene Sandifer is the administrator and Michael Ross is director of music studies.


SOUTH SHORE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 7350 S. Jeffrey Blvd., features Dr. Alison Gise Johnson as speaker for the Women's Day Service Sunday for Divine Service at 11 a.m. Musicians performing for the Women's Chorus are Jessie Lyle Lucas, organist, and Cecelia Griffin, pianist. Gail Bradley is chairperson and Rev. Dennis Langdon is pastor.


THE R. NTHANIEL DETT MUSIC CLUB is presenting its annual program Stars of Tomorrow May 23 featuring young musicians from Chicago and suburbs, 4 p.m. at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 3801 S. Wabash Ave.


WILLARD WIGAN'S ART IN THE EYE OF THE NEEDLE: The Hollywood Collection can be seen at Nicole Gallery, 230 W. Huron St. Gallery hours are Tuesday-Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.


CHICAGO CULTURAL CENTER SPRING EXHIBITIONS at 78 E. Washington St. include works by Romare Bearden in the Sidney R. Yates Gallery that continue through June 27. His artistic contribution consists of process prints that include literary, Biblical, mythological, popular culture, and Western and non-Western references informed by his African American cultural experience.
ADLER PLANETARIUM at 1300 S. Lake Shore Dr., features in May Journey to the Stars; Planet Explorers; Telescopes: Through the Looking Glass; One World, One Sky; Big Bird's Adventure and more.
